Just a quick update on my progress with the “Mutantbox Prologue”. Things are moving along, albeit at a snails pace. I knew this would be a major undertaking but didn’t realize that I would have stalled out at the story phase. After multiple rewrites I am still not happy with the gags or even the overall concept and have completely abandoning my story boards for yet another rewrite.

Its not that it totally sucks, but I just know it can be better. For the next few days I have decided to switch gears altogether and just work on the model sheets and the website. I’m hoping a little time away might help me finalize the story details and get this thing back on track. I have vowed that this will be the only personal project that I am working on until its down and I starting to feel the strain of that conviction.

I must admit that I am also starting to question if I have the mentality and stamina for animation. I like illustration because you do it and then your done, boom! Right now though I am wondering if I am suffering from a kind of selective AADD (animation attention deficit disorder). Following through on a large project, drawing the same things over and over takes a special mindset I’m not sure I possess. Regardless I have to continue on and finish this project, stop making it into work and make it fun again. I’m sure once the story gets to the point that I can live with things will progress much quicker. There is no point on animating a story that isn’t worth watching.

Here are the main character for the Prologue, I wanted to introduce them since they will be a predominate part of the website. Below is a rough Photoshop sketch of Mutantboss and his Minions.

They still need to be brought into flash cleaned up, broken up and possibly simplified a bit. I think that I am happy with them enough at this point to move forward.

Inspired by real life events, having a 2-year old is all about “Poo”. That and poop jokes never get old.

Finally something new. Seems like forever since I had the chance to do something fun. Well a few nights ago I rented the new Rambo movie. When I went to bed that night I had a bunch of strange dreams where everyone was from the 80’s. Just as I was waking up this little guy appeared in my dream. By lunch the image of him was still so clear in my mind that I decided to just make a quick sketch. So here he is, directly from my Rambo influenced subconscious.

My first ever walk cycle. I have to give a great guys named Waytoons with help on learning how to nest feet inside symbols. There is a lot of room for improvement but just finally finishing one is a big step forward for me.

I’m not sure if this guy is going to be a sidekick for Bugger or star in his own little animation, but I like him.

I like this little guy, he is a possible candidate for this site’s mascots.

I am actually liking him more and more. I think I will do a full rotation and set him up with a full set of expressions and mouths for animation.
